Playing with perception, materiality and the touch of light, this coffee table is above all a sculptural statement.
The base, which acts as a supporting column in crushed stainless steel, is created using a new technique derived from Ben’s In Hale series. Sheets of metal are welded together to form a provisional volume, which is then subjected to a process of high external pressure. An idiosyncratic sculpting process, challenging to control yet meticulously executed. The cast aluminium adds to this by evoking the rough surface of the stone, which absorbs the light due to its pronounced matt appearance..
